A pressure sore or bed sore is an area of damaged skin caused by laying in a set position for too long without moving. They tyipcally form near bones close to the skin including bones in the foot, back, elbow, and heel. Patients most commonly afflicted are those confined to wheelchairs or bedridden or who are otherwise unable to shift positions. If not detected and treated early, they can become life threatening.
Patients should typically shift every two hours and should use pillows as needed to avoid pressure from building up in a specific spot.
